Random cool stuff:

Firstly, Christian Mohn has the perfect example of what not to do when you mix alcohol and fire with your mouth.

Secondly, since Kottke became a full-time writer, his blog has gone from tasty to absolutely scrumptious: check out Low stakes Finnish Hold ‘Em and his insights from recent pop science regarding ordering food. Also, the last paragraph from his review of Revenge of the Sith is basically what I thought about the main element of the movie, besides “ooh that rocked!”

Speaking of Star Wars, while some take gleeful delight in reading an excoriating review of it—a review which I might write about once I’ve seen episodes I and II—I find myself prefering lightly plucking disses, such as this one by Brian Mcgrory regarding a tough Massachusetts politician who seems to have developed a peculiar fondness for makeup, at least going by expense disclosures:

Somewhere between the union hall and the halls of Congress, a funny thing happened to Southie’s own Steve Lynch. How else to put this: He developed an affinity for makeup, makeup as in Revlon and Lancôme, or maybe he’s a Maybelline man. Actually, let’s be honest: Steve Lynch might have an honest-to-goodness addiction to blush and eye shadow. [...]

Lynch didn’t return a call last week to talk about shadows and rouge. Perhaps he was busy browsing the Clinique counter over at Saks, or stopping by Sephora to do a meet-and-greet with his favorite sales clerks. Instead, his spokesman, Matt Ferraguto, called with a written statement [...]

Later, Ferraguto called again with what he said were statements from Lynch. ”Hey, look, I was an ironworker for 18 years,” the first one read. ”When they told me I needed makeup, I called the cement finishers union.”

Da dum dum.

And then: ”With a face like mine, I should be eligible for disaster relief.”

Finally: ”The toughest part of this is explaining to my wife that I’ve spent more on makeup than she does.”

All this self-flagellation almost makes you want to hug the guy. But if you do, be careful. Be very careful. You really don’t want to smudge his face.

Hahaha.
