‘Boyfriend’, anti-Meth PSA

Pretty chilling ad, from an anti-Meth campaign in Montana: Boyfriend (directed by Darren Aronofsky—Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain.)

I don’t tend to think that the “Not once! Not even once!” line is reasonable advice when it comes to these things—or even useful—so I can’t vouch for the actual efficacy of this Montana Meth project (more discussion), but some of their PSAs are slickly done.

The other Aronofsky ads are ‘Friends’ (AdCritic.com’s top spot for March 9), ‘Mother’, and ‘Parents’.

I wish my boyfriend had never tried it- not even once. He got hooked. Now he has stopped, but the damage is already done. These PSA's are complete truth- you really can get hooked after only trying it once, and most people do.

I know for a fact that Darren Aronofsky demanded a $200,000 dollar directing fee, to be paid upfront and in cash, before he would show up for the first day of shooting. What an artist! What a humanitarian!

Hey ‘Crew Member’, you added this comment to my site then you referenced your comment as a citation for this claim on wikipedia?! Wow buddy I hope someone removes that claim or you add some actual citations up there. Wow at this circular nonsense.

Very chilling indeed. The first thing that popped in my head was: what if it was my situation. You obviously don’t feel well about it. I am from a city where there is a lot of drug use and seeing junkies walk by you in the streets just hurt your feelings. Especially if you hear the stories from people that used to know the person before they started using. It is sometimes hard to believe.

I am not really up to date with America’s anti drug campaigns…but something I thought about was is it a good idea to make a campaign against one specific drug only. Won’t it bring up feeling of: Oooh well, as long as i am not using Meth. Or is Meth a popular drug in the U.S.A?

    Anyway…Strong powerfull ad though.
